If you fail to complete the required 12 CE hours before your NJ real estate license expires, your license will lapse. A lapsed license means you cannot legally practice real estate in New Jersey until you reinstate it. Reinstatement involves completing the CE requirements plus paying reinstatement fees and potentially additional penalties. It is significantly easier and cheaper to complete your CE on time.
If you received your NJ real estate license in the last 6 months of a renewal cycle, you may be exempt from CE for that cycle. However, CE requirements begin in your first full 2-year renewal period. Check with the NJ Real Estate Commission or your license record at NJ DOBI to confirm your specific CE obligations based on your license date.
NJ CE courses approved by the NJ Real Estate Commission are designed for NJ license renewal specifically. Whether they transfer to another state depends entirely on that state's CE reciprocity rules. If you hold real estate licenses in multiple states, check each state's requirements separately. Absolute's CE courses are approved for NJ renewal.
No. The NJ real estate licensing exam must be taken in person at a PSI testing center. PSI has multiple testing locations across New Jersey. The exam is not available online. However, all of your exam preparation - practice questions, simulated exams, flashcards - can be done fully online through the Absolute student portal before your in-person exam date.
The NJ real estate licensing exam fee is $49 per attempt, paid directly to PSI when you register. This is separate from your school tuition. At Absolute Real Estate School, your $275 course fee covers everything from the school - the course, the textbook, practice questions, and exam prep materials. The $49 PSI exam fee is paid directly to PSI, not to us.
